The 14th Wedding Anniversary: A Renewal of Vow and  Thanksgiving

Mr. Verlitos Catapang and his beautiful wife, Jen Catapang

I was lucky to be invited in a wedding ceremony by one of  the 'iconic' couples in our time. They're not supermodels or famous Hollywood stars (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie), but they are one of the couples I am happy to be with knowing that they are still committed in spite of the turmoils this life has given them. Indeed, love move mountains.

Somehow, let me tell you something about how I see marriage...

Marriage is one of the most famous word which often single like me "fear" of. I grew up surrounded by elders and friends telling me how awful their marriages were. The mothers and community folks continue to threaten me with the 'revenge' of marriage and how it changed their fate since then.

In our family, I saw how my Papa and Mama fought for their marriage. The struggles we went through as a family, proved one thing-family is not perfect and so marriage.

I have come to realize now, that marriage is a decision and a commitment. When Ate Jen and Kuya Verlitos made that decision, it was out of selfless love. To serve someone and to sacrifice for other person's sake. It is to give and expect nothing in return.

I praise the Lord for their marriage. For my Papa and Mama who proves to me that "love" is beyond emotions, I learned that it is their choice of being together, for having no reason at all. It is the bond willing to suffer for someone, risking their own ego, pride and selfishness.

Now, I understand after so many years...love is a commitment. You marry not the perfect person, nor the best one, but the person you chose to love no matter what. Truly, like a braided hair and God as the invisible stronghold..love survives. Long live couple! Long live true love!
